INTRODUCTION
No 930 Turbos were delivered new to Australia after 1985, making late-production examples like this 1987 Porsche 911 Turbo (930) particularly rare in the local market. Already a highly original and well-preserved example when acquired, the current owner has since invested over $250,000 with marque specialists PR Tech to elevate the car to concours-level condition. Presented exactly as it would have left the factory in 1987, this is not simply a restored 930, but one of the most resolved and complete examples we have seen. A benchmark car, and without question among the very best in Australia, if not globally.

A WORD FROM THE OWNER:
“I'd been searching for the best 930 3.3 available for more than a decade. I was particularly interested in a later year model: 87 - 89, which meant it had to be an import as no 930s were imported into Australia after 1985 due to the adoption of ULP. I found the car on Hexagon Classics - one the most respected UK high street classic car dealers. It was the perfect spec, Guards red, linen leather and sports seats with red piping, and only 30K miles from new. I asked a colleague in London to look at the car for me, and he confirmed it was completely original, the wheels were unmarked and there was no corrosion. When the car arrived in Australia it was as described. It looked and drove exceptionally well for an old car, but it was not quite perfect.
With PR Tech I went through the list of items required to bring the car up to a new condition, like all my other classic Porsches. In the end we decided it was best to do a full restoration, even though the car was undamaged and in excellent mechanical shape. Restoration would allow us to repaint the entire car to factory spec, while rebuilding, replating and soda blasting the mechanical components. The interior was almost perfect, so the leather and carpets were merely cleaned and conditioned. (Resto cost about 250K)
After restoration to a new condition, the car has been driven a few hundred km per year, otherwise stored covered in a dedicated storage facility. PR Tech continued to do all the servicing on the car. I chose to restore the car because while I like classic cars, esp Porsches, I don't like old cars or used cars. Therefore everything has to be as it left the factory.
The car drives like new, and while older cars inherently require more servicing, it's possible to keep it in new condition.”
MODEL HISTORY
The Porsche 930 Turbo represents one of the most important chapters in the evolution of the 911 lineage. Developed in the mid-1970s as a road-going expression of Porsche’s turbocharged racing programmes, most notably the 917/30 Can-Am car, the 930 introduced forced induction to the 911 platform and established the “Turbo” designation as the marque’s performance flagship.
The formula remained consistent throughout its life: rear-engine layout, turbocharged flat-six power, and a driving experience defined by mechanical engagement and intensity. Early 3.0L cars laid the foundation, but it was the introduction of the 3.3L intercooled engine in 1978 that transformed the 930 into a true supercar of its era, combining increased power with improved thermal stability and usability.
By 1987, the 930 had reached its most refined form while retaining its raw, analogue character. Still equipped with a four-speed manual gearbox to handle its torque output and absent of modern driver aids, it delivered a uniquely demanding yet rewarding driving experience. This balance of evolution without dilution is what defines the late-production cars.
What makes the 930 particularly significant is its role in preserving the 911 itself. At a time when Porsche considered replacing the 911 with the 928, the commercial and cultural success of the Turbo reaffirmed the importance of the rear-engined platform. The 930 did not just evolve the 911, it ensured its survival.
FINAL SUMMARY
This 1987 Porsche 930 Turbo represents a rare convergence of provenance, specification and execution. A late-production example, highly sought after in its own right, further elevated by a documented $250,000+ concours-level restoration carried out by leading specialists, and presented in the most iconic colour combination.
With just 32,752 miles (52,709 km) from new, comprehensive documentation, Porsche Cars GB certification and recent major servicing completed, it stands as one of the most complete and investment-grade 930 Turbos currently available.
A defining icon of the air-cooled era. Done properly, without compromise.
