MODEL HISTORY‍

The 1977 Bathurst 1000 remains Ford’s most celebrated victory, with Allan Moffat and Jacky Ickx leading Colin Bond and Alan Hamilton across the line in a formation finish that sealed a legendary 1–2 result.

To honour the 40th anniversary of that achievement, Tickford re-launched in Australia with the Bathurst ’77 Special. Limited to 77 conversions of which only 44 were completed, each car was built on the Mustang GT and featured a Ford Performance/Roush Stage 2 supercharger, bespoke Tickford exhaust, uprated suspension and brakes, and a livery inspired by the famous Moffat Ford Dealers XC Falcon. With Allan Moffat’s involvement in its launch, the Bathurst ’77 Special stands today as both a powerful modern muscle car and a direct tribute to Ford’s racing heritage.

VEHICLE HIGHLIGHTS

Built to commemorate Allan Moffat’s iconic 1–2 finish at the 1977 Bathurst 1000, the Tickford Bathurst ’77 Special Mustang is one of the most significant modern collectable Fords in Australia. Just 77 packages were planned, however only 44 were completed. The reason being a lack of new stock White Mustangs nationally at the time making them even rarer than initially expected. Tickford specified it would only accept brand new delivery km cars to ensure the quality and consistency across all Bathurst Specials. Each car was extensively upgraded by Tickford with performance, suspension, braking, and styling enhancements directly inspired by the XC Falcon Bathurst-winning race cars.

Finished in Oxford White with the full Tickford Bathurst ’77 livery, this car is further distinguished by the #1 race number on its doors and roof — a detail not applied to all 44 cars. As production number 5, it was the first customer delivered car with the keys handed personally to the current and only owner by none other than Allan Moffat himself. Allan also personally signed the owner’s wallet and the interior dashboard to mark this special occasion. Number 5 has been appropriately and fastidiously cared for its entire life, something of which is clearly evident by its immaculate condition. Additionally Tickford’s meticulous attention to detail and the fitment of numerous high-end, bespoke components set this Bathurst ’77 Special apart, creating a Mustang unlikely to be replicated again.
