The Final W1 Maloo.
INTRODUCTION
In 2017, HSV gave the iconic Aussie sedan its final and most extreme mechanical package: a thunderous 474 kW supercharged LS9 V8 derived from the Corvette ZR1 with a six speed manual and extensive uprated components developed specifically to properly send off Australian performance-car manufacturing.
Australia's legendary super Ute the “Maloo” also received the W1 treatment but in extremely limited numbers. Here is a little known chapter in that story.
Offered to market for the very first time, this is build E005. In short the final W1-Spec Maloo to leave the Walkinshaw facility.
One of six W1-spec Maloo's officially completed by Walkinshaw in the same facility by the same team. One owner. Un-registered with delivery kilometres. Factory wrapping and stickers still in place.
It is not simply a rare Maloo. It is the final, most extreme expression of everything HSV and Walkinshaw spent decades building.
VEHICLE HIGHLIGHTS
At its centre is the 6.2-litre supercharged LS9 V8. In W1 specification it produces 474 kW and 815 Nm, with forged internals, dry-sump lubrication and a carbon-fibre over-the-radiator intake. Power reaches the rear wheels through the close-ratio Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual and ZF Sachs twin-plate clutch.
The transformation extended throughout the chassis. Fixed-rate SupaShock dampers, electronic torque vectoring, AP Racing brakes and Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyres reproduce the hardware that separated the W1 from the regular GTSR. The front guards are 12 mm wider on each side and incorporate carbon-fibre vents, while this Maloo carries its W1-specific badging and shadow chrome rear exhaust surround.
Inside, the W1 treatment continues with an Alcantara steering wheel and gear selector, diamond-stitched seats with W1 embroidery, W1 centre plaque, W1-specific HSV EDI presentation and a dedicated W1 Maloo build plate.
The supplied VASS certification & engineering approval records the installation of the W1 LS9 drivetrain and brakes and states that the driveline to W1 sedan specification. Its LS9 carries engine number LS9321221305.
Completed in 2023 as Walkinshaw Build E005, it is documented within its provenance as the final W1-spec HSV completed at the Walkinshaw facility. Its history is supported by a signed Walkinshaw Certificate of Authentication, build receipts, extensive build photography.
Walkinshaw Performance no longer operates out of the specific location where the legendary W1 spec HSV's were built and the LS9 engine and W1 Specific performance components are no longer available. This is something that can never be repeated. And throughout it all, this spectacular example has remained on delivery kilometres retaining its factory wrapping & stickers.
A closing piece of Australian automotive legacy, ready to be responsibly cared for by its next custodian.

MODEL HISTORY
By 2017, the end of Australian Commodore production was approaching.
HSV chose to finish with its most extreme locally developed road car.
The GTSR W1 took the already formidable GTSR and replaced its supercharged LSA with the hand-built 6.2-litre LS9, an engine originally developed for the C6 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.
It was no ordinary engine swap.
The LS9 brought forged aluminium pistons, titanium connecting rods and inlet valves, dry-sump lubrication and a 2.3-litre supercharger. In HSV specification it produced 474 kW and 815 Nm. A bespoke carbon-fibre airbox was developed to satisfy its airflow requirements.
HSV paired it exclusively with a close-ratio Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual, using the MH3 gearset, a solid flywheel and ZF Sachs twin-plate clutch.
Then it reworked the rest of the car to keep up.
The regular GTSR's adaptive Magnetic Ride Control was replaced by fixed-rate SupaShock dampers developed from Australian motorsport experience. AP Racing brakes used enormous 410 mm front rotors with six-piston monoblock calipers. Electronic torque vectoring helped manage the LS9's output, while Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tyres provided serious track-focused grip.
Even the body changed.
The front guards grew by 12 mm on each side to accommodate wider tyres and revised suspension geometry, with carbon-fibre vents distinguishing the W1 visually from the regular GTSR.
Inside, Alcantara replaced leather on key touchpoints, W1 embroidery and identification appeared throughout the cabin, and HSV's Enhanced Driver Interface received W1-specific presentation.
The result was the most powerful production car HSV had built.
There was just one obvious omission.
The Maloo.
The GTSR Maloo existed, HSV investigated the idea, but the economics of engineering and certifying such a tiny production run did not make sense. The limited availability of LS9 engines only made the problem harder.
Despite this Walkinshaw Performance commissioned a limited number of W1-spec Maloos using GTSR Maloo donor vehicles for a select few individuals. They received the defining W1 mechanical upgrades and the engineering approval required to make them road legal. The W1 Maloo was never made available to general public.
FINAL SUMMARY
An extraordinary piece of Australian motoring history, this HSV GTSR W1 Maloo represents the final chapter of an iconic era.
One of just six W1-specification Maloo's completed by Walkinshaw Performance, Build E005 is documented as the final W1-spec HSV to leave the facility, assembled by the same team responsible for Australia's most extreme production performance sedan.
Offered to market for the first time, its significance is further elevated by single ownership, delivery kilometres, an unregistered history, preserved factory wrapping and comprehensive Walkinshaw documentation.
More than simply an exceptionally rare HSV, this is a remarkable opportunity to acquire what is believed to be the final expression of decades of Australian performance-car engineering, preserved in virtually as-delivered condition.
