‍

INTRODUCTION
‍

Carrara White. Riviera Blue wheels and script. A towering rear wing, white roll cage and flame-resistant Nomex bucket seats.

The first GT3 RS makes its intentions clear.

Porsche gave it the same 280 kW Mezger flat-six as the contemporary GT3, then stripped away weight, comfort and compromise. Carbon fibre. Polycarbonate rear window. Six-speed manual. Rear-wheel drive.

You paid more and got less.

That was exactly the point.

The first GT3 RS was never a common sight. Just 682 were produced globally, around 140 in right-hand drive, and only 18 came to Australia. This two-owner example was delivered by Porsche Centre Brisbane and has covered just 13,804 km, making it an unusually intact piece of where the RS story began.

The GT3 RS became an icon. This is the car that gave those letters their meaning.

VEHICLE HIGHLIGHTS

With just 13,804 km from new, this example stands out not only for its mileage, but for how comprehensively its history has been preserved. It was delivered new by Porsche Centre Brisbane, has had just two owners from new, retains its original books and carries eight stamped services from Porsche Centre Brisbane and respected Queensland Porsche specialists.

Its most recent visit was completed in February 2026 at 13,227 km, where it received major maintenance and spark plug replacement. For a car of this age and significance, that continuity of servicing is an important part of the story.

The specification is equally compelling. Carrara White is paired with the less common Riviera Blue graphics, matching wheel spokes and seat belts, while the factory white safety cage and lightweight Nomex bucket seats remain exactly as intended. Carbon fibre is used for the bonnet and rear wing, with a polycarbonate rear window further reducing weight.

Beneath it all sits the 3.6-litre naturally aspirated Mezger flat-six, producing 280 kW and 385 Nm through a six-speed manual gearbox. The 996 GT3 RS was not about headline power. It was about response, weight, precision and the directness of a road car developed with motorsport firmly in mind.

Of the 682 examples produced worldwide, approximately 140 were built in right-hand drive, with just 18 delivered new to Australia. Combined with its low kilometres, two-owner history, original books and Australian delivery, this is a particularly complete example of the car that began the modern GT3 RS lineage.

MODEL HISTORY

The GT3 RS story begins before there was a GT3 RS at all.

Porsche introduced the GT3 name with the 996 in 1999, creating a road-going 911 with a much closer relationship to Porsche Motorsport. At its heart was the naturally aspirated engine architecture now closely associated with Hans Mezger, with roots in Porsche’s GT racing programme.

The updated 996.2 GT3 pushed the formula further, producing 280 kW from its 3.6-litre naturally aspirated flat-six.

Then Porsche decided to take something away.

When the first GT3 RS appeared in 2003, it retained the same rated power as the contemporary GT3. The difference came from what surrounded the engine.

Carbon fibre was used for the bonnet and rear wing. The rear window became polycarbonate. Lightweight bucket seats, a factory safety cage and a more focused chassis pulled the road car closer to Porsche Motorsport.

That connection was not simply marketing. The 996 GT3 RS was developed around motorsport homologation requirements, giving Porsche a more focused road-going foundation for its GT racing programme.

Even the appearance carried history.

Carrara White with red or blue graphics referenced earlier Porsche RS models, creating a visual link between the new water-cooled GT programme and the Carrera RS cars that came before it.

Production remained extremely limited. Just 682 examples were built globally, with approximately 140 in right-hand drive and only 18 delivered new to Australia.

What followed is now one of Porsche’s defining performance bloodlines.

997, 991, 992.

More power. Wider bodies. Faster gearboxes. Increasingly sophisticated aerodynamics.

But the basic idea was already here.

Naturally aspirated. Rear-wheel drive. Less weight. More motorsport. Fewer compromises.

The first GT3 RS did not inherit the formula. It created it.

‍FINAL SUMMARY

The modern GT3 RS is an extraordinary piece of engineering, but the idea was once much simpler.

Take a GT3. Give it no more power. Remove weight. Add motorsport hardware. Sharpen everything that connects the driver to the car.

That was the 996 GT3 RS.

This example captures that original formula in a particularly desirable form. It is one of just 18 delivered new to Australia, supplied by Porsche Centre Brisbane and finished in Carrara White with the rarer Riviera Blue wheels, graphics and seat belts.

It has travelled just 13,804 km, has had two owners from new and retains its original books and eight-stamp service history, with major maintenance and spark plug replacement completed in February 2026 at 13,227 km.

Mezger flat-six. Six-speed manual. Rear-wheel drive. Nomex buckets. White cage. Carbon fibre.

Nothing there for decoration. Everything there for a reason.

The GT3 RS badge has since become one of the most important names in Porsche’s modern performance catalogue.

This is where it learned what those two letters should mean.
